Everything about the Korat ...The Korat breed is not very well known in France. The Korat is certainly the oldest and the purest cat. His native country, high plateau of Korat, in Thailand, is very difficult to reach so he won’t leave it during centuries. We are going to try hard to give you there all the information about this cat who is not like the others… Faithful He has an affectionate character and is strictly faithful. Whereas a cat very often has the “recognition of the belly” to change owner, the Korat only has one owner. It is a strong characteristic which is a disadvantage for any temporary master but who is an enormous advantage to give a child a sense of responsibility, to offer him to a couple at the time of a marriage like the tradition or even with a person alone wants it. Cheerful Adult Korat is often considered as a kitten because of his small size and of his playful character during all his life. Whereas this characteristic reduced at the other breeds after a few years, Korat remains extremely player all his life. Clever To say that Korat is intelligent is a pleonasm. As a matter of fact, unfortunately for him, any circuses having cats select him all around the world. Anyone can teach him to bring back a small paper pellet to a precise place or to play marbles. However he still remains a cat and not a dog and will not play if he does not feel like it (very seldom !). It is completely possible to train a cat, the main thing is to try to “think like a cat”. If the cat is required to stop doing such or such thing, he should be distracted towards another activity and not reprimanded. Tonic The Asian cats are much more tonic than the Western cats, particularly the Korat because of his dense muscles. The cats have a binocular vision, i.e. that an image is perceived by the two eyes at the same time, which gives them a perfect perception depth of the objects. Persevering Korat even persevering is very stubborn but nevertheless very flexible. He will obey not to go in a place but only after he had been in front location. Quiet Korat does not like the noise. It is not advised to take him along to exposures or the high speakers howl all the day. On the other hand it will support a television set or a computer and besides often above will be heated. And with his leg he will try to catch the mouse ! Homebody Korat is a real homebody. He comes to play naturally, does not fail to have fun with any known person who arrives. However he still remains self-sufficient and homebody. The cat, contrary to the dog, does not live in a group and his social structure rests on the direction of the territory and not of the membership of the group. He does not drive out groups some like the dog and his goal is not to create a pack. It is often the reason for which one says that the cat is “independent”… but it is a mistake.
