The gestation of the she-cat lasts on average 63 to 65 days (nine weeks and half) with the extreme ones going from 58 to 72 days (more the litter is important more gestation will be short). At the 21st day of gestation the udders of the female turn pink and inflate. This is particularly visible for a first litter. The first month the growth of the foetuses is rather slow : the kittens grow little. On the other hand, during the second month, the belly of the she-cat strongly swells. Then, the foetuses will grow... As of the 36th day, the kittens are able to bend the members if one touches the end of it and instinctively turn their head towards a heat source. From the 6th week they start to move in the belly of their mother. During this period, the behaviour of the she-cat changes: she is more affectionate, plays less, spends more time to sleep and eating and seems sometimes more anxious. Violent efforts should then be avoided to her. For the food level, it is necessary to give her high-energy food , like food for kittens (that will support lactation). It should be noted that during the last week of gestation, the appetite of the she-cat will sometimes decrease. A few days before the birth it is ideally necessary to allocate for the mom a calm, hot place, without draught. It should be noted that it is advised to treat the she-cat before the coupling and in the middle of the gestation. Take care not to exempt any medical treatment during gestation without the opinion of a veterinary surgeon.
