Once that the female put her kittens at the world, she will need calms and of the rest so that she devotes her time to nurse her kittens… It should be noted that during the first 24 hours, it is not milk which is present in the udders but colostrum, very nutritive liquid which contains anti-infectious factors. Right after the birth, it is judicious to weigh the kittens then to do it again later 12 hours. Indeed, if they lost weight, it is extremely probable that the mom does not have milk and, in this case, it will be necessary to nourish the kittens with various adapted products which can be found in pharmacy and in the veterinary surgeons (thermometers, maternity milks, feeding-bottles, teats, etc.). In case of doubt or complications during the childbirth, do not hesitate to contact your veterinary surgeon. During the first three weeks the kittens do not know how to lap up in a bowl and it is thus necessary to feed them with a feeding-bottle (40°). A kitten eats 8 times per day the first week (5 with 30ml by meal), 6 times the second (30 with 50ml by meal), 5 times the third week (50 with 70ml by meal), 4 times the fourth week, 3 times the fifth week at the time of weaning. Maternity milks reproduce the balance of the components of the milk of she-cat with highly digestive proteins, easily assimilated fat content, an adapted lactose rate, minerals and vitamins. In fact feeding stuffs are complete and very well tolerated which bring to the young kittens all energy foods, plastic and vitamin essential to their growth. Lactation lasts approximately a month and half and reached its paroxysm about the third week. At this period, you will be able to possibly begin a progressive weaning while placing at the disposal of the kittens a specific food for young cats. This food is made up small croquettes which respect their teeth and has, in addition, of the suitable energy and vitamin values. The kittens naturally nourish themselves by sucking at the milk of their mother until they are three months old. Specificity : each kitten has its own udder and does not suck at another! At the beginning mom she-cat makes them their toilet (later they will learn how to do it by themselves only by copying their mom). The she-cat licks the kittens from the ears to the end of the tail : it is quickly done, they are so small ! Thus she impregnates them with her odour which enables her to recognize them and to find them when they move away from her... what they more and more often do while growing. There are so much things to do and it is so pleasant to play together, to run after all that jumps, rolls, flies... All is pretext to be played: a butterfly, a piece of string, a wool ball, a small ball, the tail of another kitten... It is possible to make a small paper ball, a flick and an observation: the cat, in general, and Korat, in particular, is a very good goalkeeper! It is the same for the pellet of paper at the end of a wire and you can play tennis or the jokari... The cat is a large sportsman because he is very skilful and very flexible because he has less bones but more muscles than us : he can slip everywhere and he always falls down on his legs, even after a somersault because that is natural for him. |
