Coupling

The coupling of domestic cats requires to know their cycle of reproduction well and to respect the ritual of it so that it is carried out under good conditions. Before letting your she-cat couple herself ensure you to be able to give a hearth to the kittens. If she live outside and that you do not want her to  reproduce, have her operated as soon as possible.

To establish a planning :

To be certain to have kittens with a pedigree the coupling should be planned. If you need advices you can address to an experienced breeder. Finding the suitable male can take time, then begin your research before the maturity of your she-cat. First of all, it is necessary to ask to the owner the health record ensuring that the cat was vaccinated and is not carrying the virus of cat-like leucosis; you will provide him the same evidence concerning your female. The animals must be in perfect health.

From preliminaries to the act...

The female :

She seems to play a passive part, but in fact it is her who controls the situation. She turns to the male to attack him ; the ritual in love wants that she rejects the first advances, so that the male approaches gradually, while avoiding looking her in the eyes; then he licks the female to relax her. She indicates to him that she is ready while raising her back legs.

The male :

He seizes the nape of the neck of the female and lie down on her back. This bite, simultaneous with the penetration, makes push a cry with the female and starts a nervous signal which involves ovulation one or two days later. A new cry corresponds to another signal for the male who ejaculates. The cat withdraws itself and moves away, while the she-cat is rolled by ground, going even until attacking her partner. The couplings follow one another during two or three days. The female will have to be kept away of the other males until heats are finished, if not it could be fertilized by several males at the same time. The sex act lasts only a few seconds.

How to find the right male for my she-cat ?

The breeder who sold you your she-cat can advise a male. You can also contact a cat-like club which will provide you a list of breeders or meet them at the time of cat-like exposures.

A she-cat can be fertilized by several males at the same time.

The females ovulate (i.e. that they slacken eggs for fecundation) only after the coupling. If a female is covered by several males she will be even more fertile, and to each fecundation a kitten will correspond. Therefore, of the couplings with several males make possible a range of kittens who will have different fathers

The serving of a female

She must be at least one year old, or more for certain breeds. Take advice near a breeder or of your veterinary surgeon.

Choose the male carefully. If it is the first experiment of your she-cat, it is preferable that the male is experienced.

You will have to pay his services but the kittens will belong to you.

Ask to visit the place of coupling which must be hot, ventilated and roomy enough for two.

By safety, cut the claws of your she-cat before her departure so that she does not wound the male.

The coupling will last two or three days.

You thus should be prepared to leave your she-cat with the breeder during this period.

On her return, keep the she-cat locked up until it ceases calling and to roll itself on the ground.

If heats return two or three weeks later, then the she-cat is not fertilized.

In this case, a second coupling with the same male is necessary.
