Tattooing

From July 3 the 2004 cats all must carry a microchip and have a pet European passport.

Electronic tattooing (with microchip)

A new identification mode of our cats and dogs made its appearance : tattooing with microchip. It has the advantage of not being un elegant as a mark in the ear since the small capsule is injected behind the head under the skin. It is posed in two minutes by a veterinary surgeon whereas it is necessary to deaden a cat for a traditional tattooing.

Advantages :

Whereas the good old tattooing in the ear has a tendency to become less readable with time, the microchip has a very long lifespan (as long as that of your small companion) and is readable everywhere in Europe (the first figures of the chip are that of the country of the animal).

In addition, the microchip is introduced into the chin-strap of the animal, without needing to deaden him.

Disadvantages :

You decided to identify your dog or your cat : we congratulate you. You chose the microchip, a little more expensive than tattooing in the ear, made attentions with the remarks hereafter.

If you let your chipped cat going outside, and that that this one carries neither collar, nor tattooing in the ear, and if he decides to run away, you need to know that the common run of people, by taking in a cat, does not think as to take him along in the veterinary surgeon or in a refuge... your cat will thus have found a new family, without wanting it.

We thus advise you to put  your cat a collar (by hoping that it will not be wounded  with, and that it will not lose it) with a small medal indicating that it is chipped, or with a word written on the collar.

Other people chose a ridiculous method : they made tattoo the word "CHIP" in the ear of their cat. That allows people who collect him to know that the cat belongs to somebody and that he is chipped.

But to tattoo this word in the ear to him, it was necessary to deaden your little four legs friend and that is never advised !

Well, you made your small cat chipped, and he also has the word "chip" tattooed in the ear. You think he is safe from any problem of perdition... Error !

The new formulation of the chart of tattooing to chip, induced that you do not wish to communicate your co-ordinates if your animal is found wandering!

Explanations :

With the old method of tattooing, if you do not write "NON (NOT)" in a certain square, you agreed to communicate your co-ordinates to the person, or the refuge who found your dog or cat. Which is logical : you make tattoo and thus identify your animal in order to find him if he were lost.

With the new chart of identification, you needs to write "OUI (YES)" in a small square, behind a tiny sentence saying in short : "I agree to communicate my co-ordinates, if my animal is found: I register YES in this square" (« Je suis d’accord pour communiquer mes coordonnées, si mon animal est retrouvé : j’inscris OUI dans cette case »). This sentence is written in the small characters, and nobody reads this kind of thing : result, if somebody takes time to find out the owners of a chipped cat but who have, in spite of them, refused to transmit their co-ordinates, he will quickly give up.
